ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the effects of transcutaneous acupoint stimulation (TEAS) on sleep quality and inflammatory factor in frail elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery.@*METHODS@#A total of 100 frail elderly patients undergoing elective laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 50 cases in each one. Patients in the observation group received TEAS, 30 min before surgery until the end of surgery, at 18:00 on the day of surgery and on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day after surgery (30 min each time). TEAS was delivered at bilateral Neiguan (PC 6), Shenmen (HT 7) and Hegu (LI 4). The disperse-dense wave of 2 Hz/100 Hz was selected, and the maximal stimulation intensity depended on patient's tolerance. The operation procedure in the control group was same as the observation group, but without electric stimulation exerted. The 1st day before surgery and on the 1st, 3rd and 7th day after surgery, the scores of Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Athens insomnia scale (AIS), as well as the serum levels of C reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were observed in the patients of two groups. At 24 h, 48 h and 72 h after surgery, the score of pain visual analogue scale (VAS) was recorded in the two groups, as well as the pressing times of analgesic pump and the usage of flurbiprofen axetil during analgesic stage. The occurrence of post operative adverse reactions was observed in the patients of two groups.@*RESULTS@#On the 1st and 3rd day after surgery, except the usage of hypnotic drug scores, the scores of each item and the total scores of PSQI, as well as AIS scores were all increased in the two groups compared with those of 1 day before surgery (P<0.05); and the scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). On the 7th day after surgery, the scores of each item and the total scores of PSQI, and AIS scores were not different statistically in comparison between the two groups (P>0.05). On the 1st, 3rd and 7th day after surgery, serum levels of CRP and IL-6 were all increased in the patients of two groups when compared with those of 1 day before surgery (P<0.05), serum levels CRP and IL-6 in the patients of the observation group were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). The VAS scores of 24 h, 48 h and 72 h after surgery, the pressing times of analgesic pump, the frequency and dosage of the remedies were not different statistically between the two groups (P>0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#TEAS can effectively improve sleep quality and reduce inflammatory reaction in frail elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To study the application value of surface electromyography in children with dysphagia.@*METHODS@#A total of 20 children with dysphagia were enrolled as the observation group, and 20 healthy children, matched for sex and age, were enrolled as the control group. Surface electromyography was used to record the electromyography integral values of the submental and infrahyoid muscle groups in the resting state and the state after water swallowing. The two groups were compared in terms of the electromyography integral values of the submental and infrahyoid muscle groups in the resting state and the state after swallowing 5 mL water. The observation group was observed in terms of the changes in the electromyography integral values of the submental and infrahyoid muscle groups after 1 month of rehabilitation treatment. A Spearman correlation analysis was used to evaluate the correlation of the degree of dysphagia with the electromyography integral values of the submental and infrahyoid muscle groups in the observation group.@*RESULTS@#There was no significant difference between the two groups in the electromyography integral values of the submental and infrahyoid muscle groups in the resting state (P>0.05), while after water swallowing, the observation group had significantly higher electromyography integral values than the control group (P<0.05). The observation group had significant improvements in the clinical symptoms of dysphagia after treatment, with significant reductions in the electromyography integral values of the submental and infrahyoid muscle groups (P<0.05). The severity of dysphagia was positively correlated with the electromyography integral values of the submental and infrahyoid muscle groups (P<0.01).@*CONCLUSIONS@#Surface electromyography is useful in the diagnosis and therapeutic effect evaluation for dysphagia in children.

ABSTRACT

In this study, the effects of apollon antisense oligodeoxynucleotide (ASODN) on the proliferation and apoptosis of human Lovo cells in vitro were investigated. Apollon ASODN was incubated with human colorectal Lovo cells for 48 h, the proliferation inhibition and the clone forming rates were detected by WST method and clone formation assay, respectively. The expression of apollon mRNA was analyzed by real time fluorescent quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. The percentage of apoptotic cells and cell cycle distribution were determined by flow cytometry. The morphology of apoptotic cells was examined by fluorescence microscope. Lovo cells incubated with apollon ASODN combined with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), cisplatin (DDP) or epirubicin (EPI) of different concentrations, cell proliferation inhibition rates were detected with WST method and IC50 was calculated. It was found that ASODN targeting apollon gene could all suppress the growth of Lovo cells and induce apoptosis of these cells significantly (P < 0.05). After Lovo cells treated with apollon ASODN for 48 hours, the expression of the apollon mRNA level was suppressed significantly. And a marked concentration-dependent decline of cell proliferation and clone forming, increasing of cell apoptosis levels were observed. The percentage of G0/G1 phage cells was abated and that of S phage cells was increased and the Lovo cells arrested at S phage of the cell cycle detected with flow cytometry. Many Lovo cells stained with Hoechst 33258 exhibited apoptotic morphology such as cell shrinkage, nuclear condensation and nuclear fragmentation. Cell proliferation inhibition was detected and their chemo-therapeutic effects of 5-FU, DDP and EPI on Lovo cells combined with apollon ASODN (0.08 micromol x L(-1)) were enhanced independently compared with single 5-FU, DDP and EPI groups, and the sensitivity enhanced about 2.58, 4.47, and 5.33 times respectively. It can be concluded that ASODN targeting apollon can suppress the expression of apollon mRNA, and inhibit the proliferation, induce apoptosis, arrest cell cycle at S phase of colorectal cancer Lovo cells in vitro and enhance the chemo-sensitivity to 5-FU, DDP and EPI.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the risk factors of human cystic echinococcosis (CE) in Hobukesar Mongolian Autonomous County of Xinjiang (HMACX) and to discuss the related strategies for prevention and control. Methods A randomized sampling method was used to screen local residents for human CE in HMACX. CE related risk factors including ethnicity, age, sex, occupation and personal status on hygiene etc. were analyzed under multi-factor logistic regression. Results The prevalence rates of CE and alveolar echinococcosis (AE) were 3.7% (23/627) and 0.16%(1/627) respectively, with the seropositive rate as 12.4% (76/613). The main risk factors that significantly associated with CE were age (OR=7.6,95% CI: 2.481-23.579) and slaughtering livestock in the households (OR=3.2,95%CI: 1.297-7.809). Herdsmen had the highest prevalence of CE in all of the occupations in this study. Conclusion HMACX had been a highly endemic area for human CE,with age and family slaughtering-livestock-behavior appeared to be the main possible risk factors.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the characteristics and distribution of human eehinococcosis in Hobukesar Mongolian Autonomous County (HMAC) in Xinjiang. Methods Using cluster sampling methods, the 2 counties (Tiebukenwusa and Narenhebuke) in HMAC were chosen as focusing areas for investigation. A survey of human echinococcosis including questionnaire, serological test and abdominal ultrasonic scan was carried out. Results The prevalence of human echinococcosis was 9.0% (64/712) by ultrasound and surgical history, including 8.7% (62/712) for cystic eehinococcosis(CE), 0.3%(2/712) for alveolar echinococcosis(AE) and 15.6%(111/712) for total of serological positives in HMAC. CE prevalence rate of different occupations, age, family slaughtering livestock and drinking water source had significant differences(P<0.05). Herdsmen as the highest risk group showed a CE prevalence of the 13.4% (27/201) in comparison with other occupations. The ages between 20 to<40 year-old were at the highest risk stage with 12.8% incidence. But CE prevalence rate of different gender, ethnic and education groups had not significant differences(P>0.05). Conclusions HMAC could be considered as a high endemic human CE region in Xinjiang. The current study reported the main risk factors may include occupations, age difference and drinking water source.
